Stop being a Fattist
I admit it, I am on an anti-Fattist kick these days. My new passion seems to be learning about and pointing out to others evidence and information contrary to the popular belief that being thin is good and being fat is bad.
I really want our society to change their thinking around this! I believe this will go far in eliminating not only prejudice and discrimination against fat people but also eating disorders and body image issues.
I simply ask you to think critically, to read other opinions out there, to decide for yourself what is true for you. I will help by providing articles, quotes, postings that give other opinions that are out there, but not as easy to find.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the rampant fat-phobia in our society. I think it's time for some fat pride.
When I was a 20 something closeted lesbian I was confused by the concept of 'gay pride'. I thought 'why should I be proud of being gay?...it's not like it is an accomplishment...it's just who I am'. Then one day I happened to be downtown on a Sunday in June and crossed paths with the annual gay pride parade. I was filled with...what? so many feelings...of being connected and included and NOT ASHAMED. I was inspired to jump in and join the parade that day. That was when I realized that 'pride' pushes back the shame and the shame just needs to be pushed back on so we can live the good lives we have.
I was at the K.D.Lang concert Tuesday night and a woman in the audience yelled out her song request:'Big Boned Gal'! K.D. paused, smirked, and said 'I resemble that comment'. The woman yelled back 'So do I!'. So much pride and connection...I felt my heart fill up again in that familiar way.
